Ms. Goguen received her undergraduate degree from Providence College (B.A. cum laude 1994) and her law degree from St. John’s University School of Law (J.D. 1997) where she was a Notes and Comments Editor on the St. John’s University Journal of Legal Commentary.
Following law school Ms. Goguen practiced law in White Plains, New York as a civil litigation defense attorney at the firm of Wilson, Bave, Conboy, Cozza & Couzens, P.C. She joined Hanson Curran in 2000, becoming a partner in 2005. Ms. Goguen is a member of the Bars of the States of Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. She focuses her practice on the defense of medical malpractice, workers’ compensation and personal injury claims. In addition, Ms. Goguen currently serves as the firm’s managing partner.
In 2009, Ms. Goguen was honored to receive a “40 Under Forty” award from the Providence Business News, recognizing her success as a young professional. She is also honored to serve on the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Legal Education Partnership, an organization which joins professionals from the legal and educational fields to promote a greater public understanding of the law and legal processes. Ms. Goguen often serves as a “performance judge” during the mock trial tournaments sponsored by the RILEP.
She is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association, the American Bar Association (Litigation and Law Practice Management Sections) and the Defense Research Institute. Ms. Goguen has lectured on the defense perspective in personal injury and medical malpractice claims through the National Business Institute.
Ms. Goguen has been selected for inclusion in the Rhode Island Super Lawyers ® –Rising Stars Edition 2010. Super Lawyers selects attorneys for its yearly list using a rigorous, multiphase rating process. While up to five percent of the lawyers in the state are named to Super Lawyers, no more than 2.5 percent are named to the Rising Stars list.
